Global sourcing allows for the best "bang for the buck". City specializes in sourcing the best components from all over the globe.
In response to numerous requests for a cabinet line combining
customization, quality, and affordability, we revisited our design
approach. The result is a new line that addresses the need for a
budget-friendly cabinet while preserving our cherished high-end
features. Unlike our previous lines centered on American sourcing, City
Cabinets is free to source components globally. This flexibility enables
us to meet the ongoing demand for quality, customization, and
competitive pricing.

Knock-Down design with confirmat screw assembly
Cabinets are assembled using only an electric screw driver. NO GLUE, NO PIN NAILS, NO PROBLEMS!
Both are stable, and there is no noticeable visual difference once installed. City cabinets are 20–30% heavier due to more glue between thinner veneers, but this only becomes noticeable during installation. City plywood is certified CARB Phase 2 for formaldehyde emissions.
City plywood is heavier but has a thinner face veneer compared to Barker's maple. Both are stable, but City’s plywood is heavier due to more glue between the veneers. Both cabinets have similar durability, appearance, and feel.

Door Construction
Doors are made in the same facility in Tualatin, OR. The team doesn’t distinguish between the two lines, so the construction and quality are identical.
Same as Barker. Both lines are made in the same facility with no difference in construction.
Door Finish
Paints are Conversion varnish; clearcoat and stains are baked-on waterborne.
Baked-on waterborne – satin sheen
Finish Details
Conversion varnish paint has been used for over 30 years. It's a durable, solvent-based finish that dries at room temperature. In contrast, our clearcoats and stains are waterborne, baked-on finishes that provide a smooth yet natural feel without tinting the underlying wood.
City uses state-of-the-art waterborne finishes, which are sprayed, cured, baked, and IR-dried for an ultimate baked-on finish. Both finishes are hard, durable, and certified to KCMA standards or better.
Drawer Box Construction
English dovetail drawer boxes, fully assembled, sanded, and sprayed with a baked-on waterborne clear finish for smooth joints.
English dovetail drawer boxes, fully assembled from pre-finished stock. Joints are flush but not sanded, and the finish is applied after assembly.
Drawer Box Construction Details
Barker fully assembles, sands, and sprays the drawer boxes for a smooth finish, creating a high-end feel.
City uses pre-finished stock for assembly and applies the finish afterward, leaving some raw wood exposed on the dovetail joints. They’re still sturdy and functional, but not as smooth as Barker's.
Drawer Box Wood Type
Variety of wood types, including Baltic birch plywood, hard white maple, and walnut.
Drawer boxes are made from rubberwood, a sustainable material that’s strong, environmentally friendly, and easy to work with.
Drawer Box Wood Type Details
Barker’s variety of wood options creates a more refined look and feel.
City’s rubberwood is less expensive, but it is a sustainable and durable choice. The overall appearance and construction are very similar to Barker’s, but Barker’s drawer boxes have a smoother finish.
Barker uses the Movento slides, which offer better adjustability and a higher weight rating. The Movento slides are heavier and feel more substantial.
City uses the tried-and-true Tandem+Blumotion slides, which are very reliable but offer slightly less adjustability and weight capacity compared to Movento. Both slides are high quality.
